Not Just Hearers

In a message entitled “The Spirit of Adoption”, this week we considered Galatians 4:1-7. We heard how in the fullness of time God sent His Son to secure our sonship and sent His Spirit to reveal our sonship. With a desire to truly know the affects of this amazing reality, let us ponder these questions:

  1. Where can you be tempted to place your identity, other than in your sonship? In these times, how do you keep your identity rooted in being a son or daughter of God?
  2. When and in what ways do you tend to experience having a “spirit of slavery”?
  3. How do you embrace a “spirit of sonship”?
  4. If at the end of a difficult day, when you know you have fallen short, someone were to ask, “Does God rejoice over you?” what would you say?
  5. How does it affect you to know that our heavenly Father loves his children, not because of what they do or don’t do, but simply because they are his children? How does this grace that flows from the gospel connect with the challenges you are currently facing?

As we consider our sonship this week, let’s pray together that the Spirit of God will give us revelation, that we may truly cry, “Abba! Father!”
