Dear KingsWay
What a joy it was to be together on Sunday as Tiffany and I and the team were sent out to Fredericksburg.
Joyful. And tearful. We will miss you so much. We’ve made so many wonderful friends, experienced so much care from you, and had such a meaningful time of equipping that leaving really is bittersweet. As Gene reminded us on Sunday, mission has a cost.
But it’s also a privilege! Thanks for your joy in releasing us, equipping us, and sending us to this new area. We go as a part of you. Somehow, through your efforts and care for us, Jesus will reach the lost. The God of history has chosen to use your labors to reach people in Fredericksburg! I trust you feel the sense of awe that he allows us to participate in his plan. What a gracious God we serve!
With gratitude for these past months and anticipation for the future,
Ken & Tiffany
PS We are only an hour up the road! (Yes, that’s a hint!!!)
Here are some thoughts on the 20 year anniversary from Ken Delage’s point of view. Ken will be planting a church in Fredericksburg within the next few months.
One of the highlights of my time at KingsWay was celebrating our church’s anniversary a few weeks ago. I experienced the evening wearing several hats: church member, father, husband, etc. Each “hat” gave me a different perspective on God’s faithfulness to Kingsway.
One of the hats that gave me an exciting perspective is that of church planter. For me, “20 years of God’s faithfulness” is still in the future. Yes, I was celebrating the past along with everyone else; but I was also anticipating the future. Seeing Gene and Liz meeting with a small church in their family room gave me real anticipation for those meetings in my own family room, set to begin in just one month.
As I experienced that evening, do you know what had the biggest impact? It was the fact that throughout the night we weren’t celebrating “20 years of Gene’s brilliance” or “20 years of perfect preaching” or “20 years of great leadership”. Nope. We were celebrating 20 years of God’s faithfulness. Twenty years of God meeting this church.
And that gives me hope. Hope that God will meet us in the going. Hope despite my weakness. Hope that God can use our team to impact a community with the gospel.
Hope, because we leave to serve the same God that has been so faithful to KingsWay.
Well, it’s begun; and perhaps a little early. March Madness.
No, not basketball.
Moving.
This week, the church plant passes a big milestone as the very first family relocates from KingsWay to Fredericksburg. My mother and father-in-law (Jerry and Connie) are packing the truck on Saturday and heading north.
More moves are ahead for us, but there is only one “first”!
We all have such mixed emotions: anticipation for what God is doing, excitement for the future, gratitude that He is going with us; but also gratefulness for KingsWay, joy in the friendships here, sorrow at leaving. What a ride! I guess that’s why it’s called “madness”!
Visioneering is the “engineering of a vision”. What’s the vision God has given you? How do you follow God in carrying out the vision? In Visioneering, Andy Stanley answers these questions in a simple, Biblical manner.
Sounds like a book for “leaders”, doesn’t it? Well, it is; but it’s not limited to them. Visioneering is for anyone who want to discover and pursue the purpose God has for their lives. It’s impacted me in every role I have: pastor, dad, husband, and man.
Are you a mom? A daughter? A co-worker? A boss? Have you considered the vision God has for you in that role?
Visioneering will help you do just that.
Sovereign Grace Church (opening August, 2009, in Fredericksburg, VA) has a blog!
Check out the latest news about the church plant here.
God builds his church. I Pet 2:5 says that Christians are “like living stones are being built up as a spiritual house”. The church is the structure; we are the stones; God is the builder. God is the builder. Not pastors. Not church-planters. God.
2009 dawns as the year
when the church in Fredericksburg will be planted. There is so much anticipation in my heart as I watch God at work already – building his church – adding people to the group of folks who will soon become a church family.
The past few weeks have been particularly exciting as I’ve been able to interact with several new families from all over the Fredericksburg area who are interested in the plant. It’s fun to watch God build.
If you are interested in learning more about the church plant or if you are considering being a part of it, please talk with me or with your pastor.
Gene and I visited the church in Roanoke last weekend. I was so thankful to be there - it felt like the ultimate front-row seat! From the “50 yard line”, I got to watch Gene encourage a pastoral team, equip future leaders, and ground a church in the Word. Wow! What a weekend!
As I prepare to lead the church plant to Fredericksburg, I am so grateful that God has placed us in this family of churches. Even more, I’m so grateful that I get to work with Gene. Lord willing, the church in Fredericksburg will soon benefit from his care just like the church in Roanoke did this weekend.
But here’s the truth. Gene can only do what he does because of you, the people of KingsWay. In a real way, the care he brings to another church is an extension of your care. So thank you. Thank you for the way that you serve and support him, and in so doing, serve and support other churches in our family.
Last night was our first class of Financial Peace University. Over 250 people gathered in the auditorium, and the mood was almost electric as the first lesson began. Everyone was excited to begin his journey toward personal financial peace. Dave Ramsey did a great job teaching us how begin taking baby steps on that journey.
What? Baby steps? I hate baby steps. I like large leaps, big jumps, sudden progress, and quick results. Baby steps are for… babies!
But guess what. Watch out… God delights in baby steps. He delights when his kids look to Him in faith and take one small step in the right direction. Just one step. Just a baby step. Look to God to provide, and put one foot in front of the other.
For many, the journey to financial peace will be a very long road. For some, the current financial climate has made the road even longer. But as we embark on this journey, let’s take our eyes off the length of the road and consider the strength of our God.
Then, take a step.
Depression: A Stubborn Darkness
Many won’t read this post. The topic scares them. I understand. It scares me too.
Depression is one of the most common and misunderstood trials that humans face.
Chances are good you or someone close has wrestled with it on some level. Depression: A Stubborn Darkness will help you walk with those who are facing this enemy. It will help you care for others. That’s the first reason I’d recommend it.
CCEF puts out a lot of books about how the gospel interacts with the Christian life. Any one of them is worth the read, but Depression is the most accessible CCEF book I’ve read. Reason number 2.
Depression is meant to be read by people who are depressed. People who are numb, paralyzed, anguished. People who can’t get out of bed, who can’t put one foot in front of the other, who can’t figure out how to go on. Perhaps that’s you. Perhaps reading this book seems like too much. How can you read a whole book when everything is so dark? I don’t know. But I bet you can get through the first page. Perhaps God will meet that small (yet so big!) act of faith.
Apart from our wives, no one does more to support us in serving you than the folks working in the office. So we wanted to take this opportunity to thank them for their behind-the-scenes roles.
Nikki has a huge heart for people - especially really short people with limited life-history (kids!). Her heart for people comes through
in everything she does - from answering phones, to greeting visitors, to administrating Kings Kids. But her heart for people is dwarfed by one other thing: her heart for the Savior. Nikki is in love with the One who died for her - and it shows in what she does and how she lives. KingsWay is blessed to have this Gospel Ambassador representing us as a receptionist.
